Blog Roundup

I had a pretty nice weekend, there was a bridal shower, had a fun dinner (it was a barbecue, Miami weather rocks) with the family and I finally picked up the Mulberry for Target bag in the pink leopard print at 75 percent off (don't you just love a good deal). How was your weekend?

Decided to kick this week off with a blog round-up, a few of my favorite posts from other blogs:

Elle Sees gave tips on how to fight off  dry winter skin. Also, be sure to check out her posts on winter hair and winter face.

FabSugar shows you how to wear flare.

B. Jones' used Carrie of Sex and the City as inspiration for her outfit posts last week. Kooky Carrie was one of my favorites (that clutch is amazing).

kris and kel introduced us to the lovely fashion illustrations of Brittany Fuson .

The Fiction I Live's   Chyrel Gomez showed off her pics from the Paramore concert she attended.

and The Cosmopolitan Clevelander shared 50 items for our closets.

finally over at PinkPopMash (my other blog) I interviewed the lovely MaryBeth of Top Drawer Vintage

How amazing does Lauren Hutton look in this all-white suit by Tom Ford for Women? Love it. Totally feeling his '70's glam look for the line.

Has Fashion Been Hijacked?

Helena at the '11 Golden Globes

Helena at the premiere of Sweeney Todd

Helena Bonham Carter, whose most recent gown at the Golden Globes was panned by many critics (I personally get her style) recently had this to say about

"I think fashion has been hijacked by the fashion industry creating rules on what one should wear and I feel like breaking the mold and seeing that the world won't crumble," Helena Bonham Carter.

Well, after the brouhaha over first lady Michelle Obama, not wearing an American designer at the last state dinner, she may have a point about the fashion industry and rules. Though as more fashion stylist/bloggers emerge and personal style is celebrated more...maybe the fashion industry's hold on what is "in" is loosening a bit...

though the ultimate decision lies with fashion editors and buyers who decide what items will trend any given season...what are your thoughts?

Material Girl

illustrations from the material girl's debut

It was announced earlier this week that Kelly Osbourne would take over as the face of Material Girl, a position formerly held by Taylor Momsen. I've been a fan of Kelly's since her days on MTV...her style has gotten more sophisticated since then, but I believe there is still the heart of a rocker girl there...overall it should be a good fit. What do you all think, yay or nay to Kelly as a spokesmodel?

Listening to Monday

One thing I really like about my current position as social media coordinator for Murval is that I spend a lot of time on the computer...and even more time with music in my ears thanks to my 5 year-old ipod nano, (not really a fan of the newer models) the fact that it's older (with like 4 gigs, sad I know) means that I have to switch the music around a lot...and in the process I am able to discover some new favorites. So here is a brief list of what I'm listening to now:

A Fine Frenzy: The singer/writer/pianist first album One Cell in the Sea is currently on constant replay, my favorites, You Picked Me, Whisper and Almost Lover .

The New Pornographers: This group features singer Neko Case and John Collins of the Evaporators. Their album Together, released earlier this year, is the group's third, my favorites Valkyrie in the Roller Disco, Crash Years and Silver Dollar Jenny, though I can replay the entire album over and over again without skipping a song.

B.O.B: His debut album The Adventures of Bobby Ray, features three top singles, my favorites from this rapper are: Bet I, Past My Shades, Don't Let Me Fall and Airplanes II (ft. Eminem).

Hope you guys enjoy my picks...this in no way encompasses all of my musical tastes, just a small sample (Matt and Kim are also fav's for the mid-day lull). What's your favorite music?

The Fridays

I have the Fridays, totally similar to the Mondays in that I am excited for the weekend to begin. That being said, I couldn't decide on what to blog about so...when I saw this question/answer post on Bows and Pearls, I decided I'd answer the questions too . Here goes:

eating/drinking: water. i've been really good at getting my 8 glasses (64 oz) a day.

listening to: A mix on my iPod, currently Lady Gaga, but a few moments earlier I was in total Jackson 5 mode *singing** Got to be there in the morning** (♥ MJ).

pondering: How to get more fans on Murval's Facebook fan page, I'm thinking a giveaway (the obvious choice right...) will keep you guys posted.
wearing: a black maxi dress with a gray cardigan, and my favorite pair of vintage rhinestone, screw back earrings)

anticipating: the weekend!! going thrift/vintage shopping and to knaus berry farm...they have the best cinnamon rolls and really good milk shakes.

baking: nothing right now, though i did make a batch of brownies last night (yum!)

reading: just picked up jane of eyre (it's my first time reading it)...right now reading the elle interview with katie holmes.

loving: working on my first novel (it's still in the very early stages)

buying: i'm on the hunt for a white blazer...and a vintage chain link necklace (i want to use it as a bracelet).

Pleated Perfection

A pleated skirt, the look I most want right now. The Sartorialist must agree because he posted both of these looks on his blog recently. What I find interesting is that both women chose to pair their look with a classic fedora. My take on the look below.

pleats

Chambray button-down shirt, $68
Navy Pleated Calf Length Skirt, $80
Magazine Trend Revolve Clothing
Franco Sarto Rugby, $60
Brooks Brothers | Tonal Ribbon Fedora, $84
Thomas Leopard Satin Bow Clutch- Black

Also,  it would be awesome if you all did me a huge favor and checked out my company's Facebook Fan Page here. Like us and be among the first to know about sales, discounts and giveaways. It's the only way I can continue to blog on company time :).

Helena Bonham Carter

I actually get this look..Helena (whom I have loved since I first saw A Room With A View) has graced many a "worst dressed" lists, but the funny thing is...she could care less and I applaud her for that, she wears clothes that fit her personal style because she is comfortable in her own skin and that is amazing. Can't wait to see what she comes up with for the Oscars!

Patchwork Art

On The Handbags Blog   I posted a photo of this Chanel bag with a poll (be sure to check it out here). It's been a few days since I first laid my eyes on this and I like it more and more every time I see it! I'm not normally a patchwork girl, but this is beautiful. It's kind of graffiti-style with the various colors and the zig-zag stitching adds movement to what could be a busy mess.

The Christian Grainy

Today marks my fourth week at Murval (we took time off for the holidays) and we are busy at work on showing the S/S 2011 looks. I can only give sneak peeks (check out our Facebook page) but, today's post isn't about that. I am actually here to discuss one of my favorite bags from the F/W 2010 collection. That would be the Christian Grainy Parisian Handbag. This sleek handbag is perfect for work or play, and yes it looks a lot like the Hermes Birkin bag, but at $78.90.,  I can actually afford to include it in my closet. It also comes in black and gray, though the gray looks a little more like a light gray/white in person.

Spring Comfort

I am spending more time on Polyvore testing out making sets, here's my latest creation: it's the perfect outfit for Spring. Needless to say, I am currently on the hunt for a similar skirt and a pair of classic white pumps. Never thought I'd be interested in wearing white shoes (they scuffed so much when I was a child) but they are on my list of things I need for this Spring.

Katie Holmes

Still not sure how I feel about Katie Holmes playing Jackie Kennedy in the History channel miniseries, she doesn't have the look imho (but I didn't cast the film so *shrug*) I do however like her latest photo shoot for the cover of Elle February.

The second shot is my favorite. It definitely has a Jackie O. vibe. Also in love with the Elsa Perretti for Tiffany ring that she's sporting, it's obviously out of my price range (they don't even list it), but I will be on the hunt for something similar on e-bay, my first stop in finding a deal ;).

Abbey Lee Kershaw

The S/S 11 ad for Tom Ford Eyewear has been released, I was a fan of last season's ads, the current one takes it up a notch and has a sort of 70's glam feel to it which I love. Also in love with the glasses featured in the second ad.

Happy New Year!

Okay lovelies, I must be truthful, I totally started this blog by mistake, my boss said something about a blog post and I up and created my very own space on blogger, the next day I found out that he wanted me to update The Handbags Blog, so, I kind of left Girl Meets, totally hanging. Well, no more, it's a new year and a new start and I rather like this little blog I've got going here. So, expect regular posts starting...now.

For starters, my first foray into Photoshop (don't ask how I've managed to avoid it all these years),

I am still working on duplicating my efforts for another card/message thing. Anyway, on to the next, a set I created, inspired by Kate Moss' style:

Kate Moss

I based the set around this British messenger.
